Jonathan Johnson comes to American Hockey Academy after 14 seasons as the Head Coach at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh. He has amassed over 300 wins at the prep level during his time at Shady Side. Prior to that he spent time as the Head Varsity Coach at Rocky River High School and was also an Assistant Coach at Mercyhusrt College for two seasons. Coach Johnson has also been very involved with USA Hockey as a coach and evaluator in the Mid-American District.



Coach Johnson played one season of NCAA hockey at Colorado College before transferring to Mercyhurst College. At Mercyhurst, he earned three varsity letters, while leading the team in scoring and serving as a captain in his final season as a Laker. During his time at Mercyhurst, Johnson earned both a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education. After college, he played minor league hockey with the Erie Panthers of the ECHL and the West Palm Beach Barracudas of the SPHL.
